Yabba dabba doo! I finally finished this excusion. In all honesty, half of these things could be eliminated. Between the broken links, not being able to access through computer and confusing set up, I have to say I feel I've wasted a lot of time. It wasn't all bad, I did learn of some very cool things, set up a blog and blogline (which I kinda forgot about) and had some fun. I really enjoyed making the avatar and checking out the Flickr sites.
Would I do this again? Probably not. I would be interested in learning one or two things but not 23 and certainly not 43.

ebooks
I visited the Overdrive site tutorial, Netlibrary wasn't working, Project Guttenburg was. I played around a little bit and did visit netlibrary through our homepage and logged in. Did some searching, did try to download but was blocked and then it expired. I have had some instances in using these applications, very cool stuff.

podcasts
Last for today. Ok, I watched the video, little hard to understand. Two of the podcast directories had broken links so I used Podcastalley. Very labor intensive sorting through those lists. I still don't completely get this except you're supposed to have the audio device to listen or listen on computer. however, when I attempted to download it wanted log in info. I'm very fed up w/all of this. I did manage to subscribe to a feed. I wish they listed by currency, whether these are still being done or not.
youtube
Played around Youtube. Looked up the 70s commercials just to spark my recollection of childhood and remembered some of them. One thing I love about this site, I go to it when I reference something, either commercial or SNL skit that I'm explaining to someone who's never seen it and then I must play it. I like how you go on home page and it recommends videos for you based on what you already looked at.
web 2.0 awards
I played around w/ a couple of different sites, wanting to see what's out there. Fortunately (un) my mood today is on the playful side. I looked at "games and entertainment" to see winners but didn't go on any sites. I opted for shopping since I've been banned from buying, thought it would be fun to browse. I played around Etsy and discovered it's a forum for all handmade items. I'm guessing like ebay only handcrafted only. I found at first the options limiting, for instance under category jewelry, necklaces, stone you still had hundreds of items. Then I discovered the search feature and it held my search for different categories under that item.
Very cool site. Useful for library work? Probably not unless a band of handicrafters come through and want to know how to get started.

google docs

Well, I just played around a pinch w/google docs and my short take on it is above. This is something that may certainly be worth investigating more. I didn't try any spreadsheets, wondering if that;s easier thank Microsoft.
All in all, better than most of the things I've been asked to try. Oh, and no surprise, the audio podcast at beginning didn't work.

23googledocs
Once again, a link was broken. Played around on google docs since that seems to be the one most people like/use and since google will replace disney in taking over the world. I liked it for the most part, a bit more straightforward than word. However, uploading an image took way too long so I gave up.
library sandbox wiki fun?
HARDLY! From trying to log in to being told not a member of the workspace to having to reset the password, I have given up! Again, lots of frustration! Supposed to blog about a wiki, well I found a Flintstones wiki! Doesn't look like much added, I may be inclined to contribute something of my vast knowledge of useful (less) information. Next, I'm on to find the Flintstones blog!

Week7wiki
WIKI WIKI FUN! Learning about wikis this week. The two sites I visited were the Princeton Book lovers and Bull Run Library.
I really enjoyed the book lovers. However, it was out of date, reviews are now posted in their catalog. The concept was great. I'll have to look for others.
The Bull Run was set up very neatly as well. Looked like a great way to zero in on happenings at the library (more so than here). The set up was a bit confusing at first w/the topics to the right. I just kept clicking to find out what would happen. The spanish applications were a nice touch.
I thought Bull Run's was very nice application process that would definately benefit public libraries.

week6technocati
This lesson was supposed to explore the popular feature on technorati. However, that link is no longer working, something that has become very frustrating as I go through these exercises. Tried visiting video area suggested w/no luck. I'm writing off this one.
week5 rollyo
OK, this I like! Kinda cool. I created a rollyo w/storytime craft ideas. Seems I'm always frantically searching for ideas right around the time for storytime. I found this site very easy to use. Since nothing "dinged" when completed, I had to double take to make sure everything saved. Should be a great time saver and when I come across other sites, I can easily add them. I see this as one of the lessons I'll take w/me!

Hope this is right!

week5,Librarything
My apologies, doing this out of order. What a great discovery! I actually looked at Librarything for another training, had an account and still remember the sign-in! I enjoy this, great way to organize what I've read. This one actually makes sense!

week 6,#13
Exploring del.ici.ous. First, the video didn't work, some of the links are broken and I'm still trying to figure out the site and tagging. I did look at some of the posts, how it was tagged and number of people who tagged. All in all, not getting it, like much of this training.

rss feeds
Just finished the tutorial all about RSS feeds. Problems, some of those videos no longer work! I'm finding that to be somewhat frustrating. Even trying to subscribe to some of these feeds is a pain. Time for the powers that be to move away from bloglines and envelop google reader? Time will tell.
So, I did subscribe to some feeds, some library related, some news and some entertainment. Let's face w/ all the destruction in the world I need my escapism and I love to be entertained. Not too bad signing up although I now realize one RSS is not all, you can tailor to specific items w/in. I really like that feature! til next time...yabba dabba do!

wk 3 What I love about technology!
I know, two posts in one day. Anything that makes my life easier I'm all for! While I love my digital camera, it requires uploading the images (which I understand isn't hard, just time consuming) and our computer is getting old. Which brings me to another lovely thing about tech., backing up on cd-rom! Seeing how easy it is once you get the hang of it, I just may register a Flickr account, upload my images, and send some very interesting xmas cards this year!
More Flickrfun
Just finished playing and making a movie poster. Had my doubts about this, seemed complicated but was really fun! What a great way to let out that frustation and play with one's creative side. Now if I can get that poster uploaded... One drawback, everyone wants you to signup for their stuff, and even though's it's free, not sure how much I'll be using it (otherwise I'd really never get any work done!).

Flickrfun, wk 3
My dream home! Haha. Big Flintstone fan, just found my next vacation destination. Playing on Flickr could be dangerous, I could easily get sucked into all the images on just about anything. Will definately explore it some more, I may even be tempted to upload some of my pics at home.

23 Things test 7 1/2 Habits
Regarding the 71/2 habits I'd have to say I'm pretty good at facing problems as challenges and teaching others. Once in awhile I can still exude some patience. Least likely, probably having confidence in myself. I do tend to second guess myself. Something to chew on...
